Google has officially announced the Pixel 9 Pro Fold through a teaser video

Google has officially announced in a teaser video that their upcoming smartphone lineup will feature a new foldable model. The company referred to the Pixel 9 Pro Fold as a “foldable phone designed for the Gemini era” in their promotional tweet, highlighting its gen AI chatbot in the video. Like the regular Pixel 9 Pro, this model also has a noticeable camera bump, with the lenses positioned vertically on one side of the phone, allowing the bump to only take up a portion of the width when the device is folded.

Although Google has yet to officially announce the model, a previous leak by Android Authority has already revealed a lot of details about the upcoming Pixel 9 models. Taiwan’s National Communications Commission (NCC) uploaded galleries of each phone — the Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, and 9 Pro Fold — to its archive. Some of the images show the 9 Pro Fold unfolded, showing how Google moved its selfie camera to the inner screen for a wider field of view. They also show that the model’s display will have a smaller display, which is 250mm or just under 10 inches.

NCC’s leak revealed that future devices will also need larger chargers. Their charging speeds are generally faster than previous models based on the agency’s tests, although the Pixel 9 Pro Fold was the slowest of them all. We can confirm this information when Google releases its new smartphones at the next Made by Google event on August 13.
